This position works as part of our interdisciplinary team to provide compassionate care to our residents. Will complete an assessment of the music therapy needs of residents and establish individualized care plans for each person in conjunction with recreational activities.
Looking for an energetic person with experience working with the geriatric population in a structured Recreation Program, Long Term Care facility preferred. Previous experience with dementia/behavior population and musical abilities beneficial.
Shifts are 7.5 hours per day with flexible hourly shifts and every other weekend and every other holiday.
The ideal candidate will be assisting with the implementation of recreation programs for residents assigned in order to provide the highest level of qualify of life in accordance with the residents’ needs, capabilities, and interests.
Designs and leads unit specific group programs and one-on-one interactions. May design and lead whole house group programs in coordination with co-workers.
Prepares monthly calendar on assigned units listing schedule of daily programs.
Completes all necessary MDS assessment and related requirements.
Writes initial assessment and quarterly summaries reflecting residents attendance at programs, social interaction with staff and other residents, any changes in mental status and/or orientation and any recommendations.
Document daily attendance and monthly statistical totals for caseload.
Participates in Comprehensive Care Plan meetings (full assessments, new admissions and quarterly reviews) and restraint review meetings for residents assigned to him.
Prepares lists of residents for special programs inside or outside of the building and handles other details necessary for the program.
Assist with organizing and implementing a daily, structured recreation program. The primary objective of the position is to attain or maintain improvement in the residents’ physical, mental and social well being.
Lead specific group programs, visit with residents, and provide 1:1 interactions.
Document daily attendance on Recreation Attendance sheets.
Develop, administer, and coordinate music activities and programs
Implement music activities that facilitate non-musical goals (i.e. sensory stimulation, memory recall, socialization)
Provide regular music therapy to restore and maintain mental health and improve overall well being for patients.
Create patient specific care plans
Qualifications and Skills
BS/BA in Music Therapy from a recognized college preferred. Associates in Recreation and/or related field required.
